Cutbacks

Hello everyone,

Try out the game, but turn down your volume, the music is annoying! Well, I’ve read some blogs created by my classmates and some blogs are really funny and some very sweet.

Have you felt the effects of a recession yet? I work in the community as a visiting nurse and last month we were told that our section is in a deficit. Which means cut backs to the type of care and supplies provided, to clients in the community.

No more monitoring, no more B12 injections and time lines will be strictly adhered by. And I was told no more ordering expensive dressings for noncompliant clients.

Also, as nurses we will see less work available as the number of clients decrease, due to new guidelines that are apparently guided by best practices.

I don't know that I've felt the recession yet, but I HAVE felt the effects of capitalism. A couple years ago, Whitby Mental Health Centre divested, and everything is about money. The meals the clients are served are starting to suck, as are the snacks. The outing and activities that used to go on as recreational therapy don't happen anymore. The flyer for the kids Christmas party came out recently- there is no cost, but the parent has to provide a $20 gift for your child. It's so cheap. The morale has gone WAY down, nurses are treated like criminals and our safety is put second to money making. It's so frustrating!!

It really is aweful isn't it!? And methinks the worst is yet to come. Luckily it hasn't really affected my workplace yet, at least not on the unit level, but certainly those around me - friends and family - are affraid for their livelihoods! Scary times!
