Technology is helping health care members communicate in more ways , more often and more efficiently. Today nurses are able to communicate with patients who live in remote areas of Canada or in smaller communities, such as Northern Ontario. For instance, telehealth, an example of information communication technology allows nurses to communicate with other health care teams throughout Ontario. Telehealth offers an alternative way of seeking medical attention for patients who are unable to travel the distance to hospitals to see specialized doctors. In addition, technology allows health care team members to communicate more efficiently, for example, through the use of fax, computer or telephone.

Boy I am glad my first semester of school is almost over. At times, being a nursing student is difficut. I am tired of assignments, essays and school in general. I need a break. Christmas !!!!!! I feel worn out trying to balance school and work. I feel I have neglected the duties of being a mother. The husband can get his Christmas wish in December. Ha! Ha!. Plus I am really tired of living in a trailor while our house is being built. At the moment I dislike this snow and wish it would disappear!

Good day eh!!

We are Canadian nurses working in a Canadian health care system. But, slowly our healthcare system erodes to resemble more like that of the Americans. I concede that we are nowhere as bad as the Americans; however, our healthcare is changing for the worse.

How many people have difficulty locating a doctor? How many people wait months or year(s) for a test, exam or surgery? How many people go to the States to have knee surgery? How many people choose between food or buying prescriptions?

It is not my intention to put down the American healthcare system. But our system works better for the people and I am worried that our Canadian government will slowly erode our system until it no longer stands out as remarkable.

Cutbacks

Hello everyone,

Try out the game, but turn down your volume, the music is annoying! Well, I’ve read some blogs created by my classmates and some blogs are really funny and some very sweet.

Have you felt the effects of a recession yet? I work in the community as a visiting nurse and last month we were told that our section is in a deficit. Which means cut backs to the type of care and supplies provided, to clients in the community.

No more monitoring, no more B12 injections and time lines will be strictly adhered by. And I was told no more ordering expensive dressings for noncompliant clients.

Also, as nurses we will see less work available as the number of clients decrease, due to new guidelines that are apparently guided by best practices.

Thoughts/Opinions on Creating a Blog

Hi!!

I am a nursing student enrolled in the bridging to BScN program at UOIT, in Oshawa, Ontario. Currently I am a registered practical nurse working two jobs, attending school full-time and a mother.

Unfortunately my negative thoughts about creating a blog greatly outweigh my positive opinions. Many of us have busy lives, so reluctantly I add “creating a blog” to my list of priorities.

Although I quite often use the internet to research nursing topics I have never considered looking at blogs. Google is quicker and leaves out unwanted personal information.

On a positive note my son thinks it’s neat that his mom knows how to create a blog. Who knows, maybe in the future I will be more receptive of technological uses.
